The
Inter-Parliamentary Union SDGs Self-Assessment Seminar has reaffirmed Parliament’s central role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), says Secretary-General to Parliament, Mrs Jeanette Emberson.
In her closing remarks, Mrs Emberson said such seminar ensured that the aspirations of the Fijian people are translated into tangible outcomes to improve lives, protect our environment, and strengthen our democracy.
“The conversations held today will not only serve as a guiding compass but also challenge Honourable Members to think critically about how, as a collective institution, can strengthen our role in advancing the SDGs,” she said.
“This seminar has reminded us that Parliament is not only a custodian of governance and accountability, but also a driver of inclusivity, sustainability, and innovation.”
“The insights shared today will guide in shaping a practical action plan that ensures our work continues to align with the aspirations of the Fijian people and the global 2030 Agenda.”
“It is our hope Honourable Members, that you will leave here with renewed commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and sustainable development.”
Members of Parliament attended the one-day seminar which was opened by the Speaker of Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko.
This week, the consultants will continue discussions with the six Standing Committees, Executive Management, caucus and senior parliamentary staff.
