Students Learn More About Parliament

Sixty-two students of Lomawai Secondary School in Nadroga braved the chilly weather conditions to visit Parliament this morning.

The group left their school at five this morning to come to Suva. The students were in high spirits and excited after witnessing for the first time the live Parliament sitting.

School teacher and coordinator Samisoni Rokovunisei said these were the Years 10, 12 and 13 Arts students who also learn about Parliament procedures and democracy in their Social Science classes.

“This is a lifetime opportunity for the students because it’s their first time in Parliament to witness such proceedings,” Mr Rokovunisei said.

“The visit has enabled them to contextualise everything they learn in their classes regarding Parliament procedures and other-related information.

“We are so blessed to be here and we sincerely thank the staff of Parliament for facilitating our visit.” Mr Rokovunisei said such a visit would encourage students to study hard and set their future goals right.

“The students have now been empowered and I am sure most of them will now study hard and maybe, become Members of Parliament in the future,” he added.

“We would love to bring in more of our students to Parliament so they can come and learn about its role and functions, as well as how well they can build themselves to become good citizens.”
