A Parliament delegation is currently in the Republic of Indonesia for the Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) meeting on Human Development and Maritime Sustainability.
Led by the Speaker Hon. Dr Jiko Luveni, the meeting is aimed at strengthening cooperation and partnership among neighbours in the Pacific as they face common geographical and global challenges of this century.
This cooperation and partnership is based on the principles of respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of States as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
The meeting also recognise the strong historical relations that the people possess as well as the opportunity to deepen people to people relations.
Discussions will also address three important issues namely:
The meeting is attended by more than 80 Speakers and Parliamentarians from the Republic of Indonesia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
The delegation also consist of the Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Hon. Joeli Cawaki and Opposition Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr Mere Samisoni.
