The Honourable Speaker Dr. Jiko Luveni and her entourage consisting of Hon. Alexander O’Connor, Hon. Mikaele Leawere, Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan His Excellency Mr. Isikeli Mataitoga visited two prominent hospitals in Metro Manila, the Republic of the Philippines on Wednesday 22 August 2018.
The purpose of the visit by Honourable Speaker and her entourage was to view their Executive Health Management Services offered to overseas VIP dignitaries and people in general.
Several of our Pacific neighbours like Papua New Guinea, Palau and the Republic of Marshal Islands have in the past sent their Members of Parliament to the two Medical Institutions for health management reviews and treatments. The visit also enabled the delegation to see a working private sector health service provider.
The two hospitals were St Lukes International Hospital, Global City, Taguigare, Manila and Cardinal Santos Hospital in Greenhills, San Juan, Manila.
St Luke’s Medical Centre (SLMC) is recognized as the leading and most respected health care institutions in the Philippines and is on par with most advanced hospitals around the world. Their mission is to continuously improve, redefine and evolve excellence in medical services.
Cardinal Santos Medical Hospital was formerly known as the St. Paul’s Hospital of Manila and was founded by the Maryknoll Sisters before World War II and was renamed Cardinal Santos on the 1st of August, 1988. It is run by the Catholic Church and is also one of the most successful hospitals in the Philippines.
Both hospitals are well known in the Philippines for their expertise in Cardiology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology and other rehabilitative medicine.
It was noted that the Fiji Teachers Union also send their members to the Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital for special treatment.
The visit was organised by the Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji in Japan, His Excellency Mr. Isikeli Mataitoga who is also Fiji’s Non – Resident Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines and was also present at the meetings.
