The Speaker of the Fijian Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko, is currently leading a high-level delegation to the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), hosted by the Parliament of Barbados and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Barbados Branch.
This gathering brings together over 500 Parliamentarians, parliamentary staff, and decision-makers from across the Commonwealth to engage in dialogue on pressing global and legislative issues.
The conference theme, “The Commonwealth: A Global Partner,” sets the tone for discussions on workshop topics, including strengthening Parliaments to support democracy; leveraging technology and AI to transform Parliaments, examining the impact of climate change on global health and building trust in Legislatures.
The Fijian parliamentary delegation includes the Minister for Agriculture the Hon. Tomasi Tunabuna; the Deputy Speaker and Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua; Opposition Member of Parliament the Hon. Viam Pillay; the Secretary-General to Parliament Mrs Jeanette Emberson and the Manager Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Protocol Mr Senitieli Wainiu.
The Hon. Qereqeretabua serves as a member of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Pacific Branch whilst Hon. Pillay is a former Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD) Pacific Regional Champion.
Throughout the week, several side meetings will take place concurrently, including the 41st Small Branches Conference, the 9th Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Conference, the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD) meeting, the 2025 CPA General Assembly and Executive Committee Meetings, and the 59th Society of Clerks-at-the-Table (SOCATT) Conference.
Fiji’s active involvement underscores its commitment to regional collaboration, democratic development, and inclusive governance across the Commonwealth. The 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference will convene from 5 to 12 October 2025, in Bridgetown, Barbados.
