Fiji to host the 5th Pacific Islands Parliaments Group Conference

The Fijian Parliament will host the 5th Pacific Islands Parliaments Group (PIPG) Conference from 26–29 August 2025 at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, bringing together representatives from 15 Pacific Island nations.

Titled “Pacific Islands in a Changing Global Landscape: From Challenges to Parliamentary Action”, the Conference will serve as a crucial forum for Pacific parliaments to address global challenges, exchange insights, and chart a unified course of parliamentary action.

A major highlight of the 2025 Conference will be the formalisation of decisions regarding the future of PIPG, based on recommendations from the Working Group that convened in Papeete, Tahiti earlier this year.

Over the course of the Conference, delegates will engage in a range of discussions, including an analysis of how global shifts impact Pacific economies and resilience. They will also examine the role of parliaments in advancing sustainable development and safeguarding citizens’ welfare, and explore how regionalism and multilateral cooperation can be leveraged to address common challenges—among other key topics.

This evening, the first delegation — from the Kiribati Parliament — arrived and was warmly received by the Secretary-General to Parliament, Mrs Jeanette Emberson. Additional delegations are expected to arrive over the weekend, ahead of the official opening on Tuesday, 26 August 2025.

By hosting this landmark event, the Fijian Parliament underscores its enduring commitment to regional unity, democratic values, and the strengthening of parliamentary institutions throughout the Pacific.
