Speaker Hon. Dr Jiko Luveni has been labelled as one of the most inspirational women in the country by the students and teachers of two schools in Rewa.
Hon. Dr Luveni received such commendations from the schools while visiting Pt Shreedhar Maharaj College and Noco Secondary School yesterday as part of the “Meet the Speaker” outreach programme.
Speaking on behalf of the students and teachers of Pt Shreedhar Maharaj College, Head of Social Science Department Mr Abhishek Prasad said the Hon. Dr Luveni’s role towards the development of the country and being the first woman Speaker, among other achievements was exemplary.
“We are very grateful to meet up with one of the country’s most successful career-oriented and inspirational women of all times,” Mr Prasad said.
“In spite of your busy schedules, you have managed to grace us with your presence, something we are grateful for.”
At Noco Secondary School, school teacher Mrs Selai Vakacegu said the Speaker’s visit brought Parliament closer to the students.
“For the past two years, we have always made sure to bring our students to Parliament because it is part of our present curriculum but today, you have indeed brought the prestigious institution down to us and for that, we are very much appreciative,” she said.
“We admire your success and indeed, you are a role model to all of us.”
Meanwhile, the Speaker presented to both the schools her role as the head of the august House and also the workings of Parliament and how members of the public can better engage with Parliament.
Hon. Dr Luveni also urged the students to work hard and excel in their studies in order to become successful people in life.
