Speaker Chairs General Debate at the 150th IPU Assembly

The Fijian Parliament is yet again taking centre stage at the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (‘IPU’) General Assembly currently underway in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The plenary session at the #IPU, the forum where all national Parliaments discuss issues, was chaired by the Speaker of the Fijian Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko.
The general debate on the overall theme for the 150th IPU Assembly is, ‘Parliamentary action for social development and justice’.
The general debate is designed to provide a platform for delegates to deliberate and exchange views on parliamentary action in this area.
The Assembly will also adopt resolutions on the subject items taken up by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security entitled The role of parliaments in advancing a two-State solution in Palestine and by the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development entitled Parliamentary strategies to mitigate the long-lasting impact of conflicts, including armed conflicts, on sustainable development.
Hon. Jitoko was one of the presiding officers entrusted in chairing the general debate which will conclude tomorrow, Wednesday, 9 April 2025.
The 150th IPU Assembly and its related meetings began on Saturday, 5 April 2025 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
