New Zealand Parliament Speaker visit to strengthen parliamentary relations

A delegation from the New Zealand Parliament is currently in the country for a two-day visit.

Led by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Trevor Mallard, the six member delegation met with the Speaker H.E Sir Ratu Epeli Nailatikau this morning in Parliament before hosting them to a lunch with other Fijian Members of Parliament (MPs).

The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the inter-parliamentary relation between the two parliaments and to create way forward to better this relation.

A reception will be hosted by the New Zealand High Commissioner H.E Jonathan Curr later this evening.

On Thursday (31st October 2019), the delegation will have a ‘Talanoa’ session with some Fijian MPs to share challenges and opportunities before having lunch with the Fijian Parliament women MPs.

The delegation leaves tomorrow evening for Nadi for other site visits on Friday morning before returning to New Zealand.

The delegation spent two days in the Kingdom of Tonga prior to their visit to Fiji.
