Debate to focus on the tourism industry

Tourism, being a lucrative industry in Fiji has driven the economy to greater heights over the past years.

And the industry is linked to a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Fiji is committed to achieving in a bid to further boost economic developments.

The upcoming Speakers Debate scheduled to be held at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel next Monday will just be the venue for more discussions on how the industry can lead to greater economic prosperity for the whole country.

The industry is linked to SDG 1 which is to end poverty in all its forms and also SDG 8 which is to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

The number of visitors to our shores continue to increase over the years with almost 800,000 tourists and about 7 million visitors’ days recorded last year.

Members of the public are being urged to throng in numbers to the event which will be from 5pm to 7pm.

Meanwhile, the debate panellists are Minister for Industry and Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources Hon. Faiyaz Koya, Opposition Member of Parliament Hon. Prem Singh, Dr. Dawn Gibson from the USP’s School of Tourism and Hospitality, Fantasha Lockington of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association and Daniel Urai from the National Union of Hospitality Catering and Tourism Industries Employees.
