Women MPs on study tour to New Zealand next week

As part of efforts to further boost their knowledge on Parliamentary procedures, eight women Members of Parliament will leave our shores for a week-long study tour in New Zealand.

In briefing the women MPs this afternoon, New Zealand Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji Ms Halia Haddad said their Government was looking forward to hosting the group from next Monday.

The women MPs are Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Local Government, Housing and Community Development Hon. Premila Kumar, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Hon. Mereseini Vuniwaqa, Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Hon. Rosy Akbar, Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Hon. Selai Adimaitoga, Hon. Ro Teimumu Kepa, Hon. Adi Litia Qionibaravi, Hon. Salote Radrodro and SODELPA Whip Hon. Lynda Tabuya.

Ms Haddad said the highlight of the trip would be “the rendezvous between the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden with the women MPs”.

“Our Prime Minister is excited to meeting you all,” she said.

The study tour will feature workshops on effective use of traditional and social media, capacity-building, advocacy and effective party responsibilities, to name a few.

The women MPs are also expected to meet with Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand H.E Filimoni Waqabaca and his team.

They are also expected to visit the Wellington Parliament, Christchurch and Auckland.
