Speaker thanks staff for the successful Opening of the 2025 Session of Parliament

Speaker of the Fijian Parliament the Hon. Filimone Jitoko hosted morning tea today to thank the Secretary-General to Parliament and staff for the successful opening of the 2025 Session of Parliament yesterday.
The Hon. Speaker acknowledged that it was his first State Opening of Parliament and was impressed and thankful to everyone for playing their part.
“I wish to host morning tea today just to convey how grateful I am for the successful event that was held yesterday as this is my first Parliamentary State Opening.
The same gratitude was expressed by His Excellency the President, while I was at the State House last night, he was happy that everything went smoothly, for me, and I want to convey that to you as well.”
“Thank you Madam Secretary-General and staff for playing your part in making yesterday a success, and even the Prime Minister was also impressed.”
“I just want to say thank you, on my behalf and on behalf of the President for making yesterday a success, for Parliament and for the country.”
The Secretary-General to Parliament, Mrs Jeanette Emberson, on behalf of the staff, thanked the Hon. Speaker for his leadership and assured him of the support that will be rendered to his Office, and also for the Members of Parliament.
“We thank you Sir for your leadership and guidance for such a time as this. I know that each staff is committed to their responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of your Office as well as to the Honourable Members of Parliament, who are our main stakeholders here.”
“Whilst we have appreciation for the calling that we have been called to, we are also mindful that we are not only serving you Sir and the Honourable Members, but the Fijian people as a whole. We pray that we will endeavour to continue to work together. Regardless of who leads or which government is in power or which Members are in Parliament, our duty is to diligently serve the institution of Parliament to the best of our ability.”
Parliament will resume next week on Monday, 3 March 2025, where all Honourable Members will have the opportunity to respond to His Excellency’s most gracious speech that was delivered in Parliament yesterday. This will take place over the course of the first week whilst the second week will focus on Bills and other approved business, as per the Order Paper.
