EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI)

VOSA VAKAVITI AND HINDI TRANSLATORS FOR THE PARLIAMENT SITTINGS

Introduction

The Parliament of the Republic of Fiji is inviting EOIs from individuals to be engaged as translators for the Parliament sittings and other parliamentary activities and events. The Fijian Parliament intends to recruit two (2) Vosa Vakaviti and two (2) Hindi translators for the upcoming Parliament sittings and on an as-and-when-needed basis.

Objective and Scope of Assignment

  1. Translators will be responsible for providing verbal and written translations of the vernacular speeches made during the Sittings of Parliament; and
  2. From time to time, called upon to provide verbal and written translations of the vernacular for other Parliament activities and meetings.

Qualification, Expertise and Relevant Experience

To be eligible for this assignment, individuals must demonstrate the following:

i) hold a good degree in English, communications or a related field language and fluency in at least two languages with a minimum of 1 year of relevant working experience in translation services (both verbal and written) OR hold a diploma in English, communications or a related field language and fluency in at least two languages with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in translation services (both verbal and written);

ii) Proven work experience in translation of Vosa Vakaviti and Hindi languages;

iii)   Good understanding of current and international affairs;

iv) Have the demonstrated ability to work late hours and under tight deadlines; and

v) Have the demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
